New School Year Welcome Letter

We are embarking on a wonderful journey this school year, and I am pleased to be teaching you English this year. To ensure that lessons run smoothly and that we get the most out of the class, I would like to outline a few requirements.

• Contract: I have high expectations, and I will be very strict about adhering to rules and procedures, so review the Student Contract very carefully to ensure compliance to it.
• Reading: I will assign a book and copies of short texts for each unit so that readings will be done daily for the most part.
• Binders: For written work, all students will need a binder, organized chronologically or logically in appropriate sections. A binder with tabbed sections for other subjects is recommended since binders are durable, efficient for storing work, and effective for organization.
• Portfolios: Students will need to maintain a portfolio or digital compilation of all major assignments. I recommend Google Drive or Gmail for submitting them, especially since the final portfolio usually contains typed revisions.
• Grades: The grade for each marking period will reflect 20% homework, 20% class work, 20% participation, 20% tests, quizzes, and essays, and 20% projects and portfolio assessments. The final grade for the semester will be an average of each of the three marking periods.
• Resources: Although I am available to provide resources and support anytime via email, you can find most of the class work on the Online Grading System, Jupiter Ed, at http://www.jupitergrades.com.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at ngranado@ebtbrooklyn.com. Let’s work together to make this school year successful!
